NETS, owned by DBS, OCBC and UOB banks, introduce the first “cashless” payment in 1986 to enable ATM cardholders to pay for purchases electronically at the point-of-sale. This first online debit system in Singapore, is one of the most successful worldwide and is accepted in more than 12,000 outlets; government departments, retails, restaurants, Hyper and medium supermarkets.
The ATM service allows cardholders from participating banks to withdraw cash and perform other transactions using any ATM within the network. In 2001, eNETS service was launched to provide "card-less" payment.
This service is positioned as a payment solution for both the Internet and mobile arenas. Its entrance marks an addition to the array of electronic payment services which NETS offers. eNETS online payment process is fast, secure (security and integrity is delivered via Secure Socket Layer (SSL), Verified By Visa (VbyV) and MasterCard Secure Code, protecting both the customer and merchant against fraud and tampering) and reliable.
